Call for Abstracts, 2023 ABVP Symposium

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) Foundation is organizing a Poster Session during the 2023 ABVP Symposium in Baltimore, Maryland (April 20 – 23, 2023). Our goal is to create an opportunity to showcase what the ABVP membership does. Hence, we invite diplomates, residents, veterinary students (under mentorship), practitioners, academicians, and researchers to submit abstracts of novel practical studies and case reports related to one of the eleven recognized veterinary specialties within ABVP (Avian, Beef Cattle, Canine and Feline, Dairy, Equine, Exotic Companion Mammal, Feline, Food Animal, Reptile and Amphibian, Shelter Medicine or Swine Health Management).

We are looking for both research and case report presentations in poster format. A dedicated session will be scheduled in the Symposium program and presenters will be required to stand by their posters to interact with the audience. The presenting author must be registered in the Symposium.

French Fellowship

The French Fellowship was created in October 2016 to honor Dr. Denny French, DABVP (Equine Practice). Dr. French earned his Diplomate status in 1985 and has gone on to serve the ABVP in nearly every role imaginable – Credentials Chair, Examination Chair, ABVS Liaison, and all executive offices. Proceeds from this fellowship program will go to veterinary students to attend the Annual ABVP Symposium.

I am honored to have this fellowship created with my name attached. My hope is that it will provide others with the same opportunity to experience the camaraderie and richness of the Diplomates of ABVP. I believe that once engaged in the organization, the daunting aspect of credentialing will not be as difficult. I was provided additional assistance (financial and emotional) early in my career and this fellowship will hopefully provide similar support to many others in the future.

– Dr. Denny French

I decided to apply for the ABVP scholarship because a Diplomate once told me that the quality of the people in the ABVP community is outstanding. When I attended the Symposium, I was able to understand exactly what he had meant. The whole time I was there, kind and compassionate veterinarians came up to me to introduce themselves and ensure that I was welcomed. It was clear throughout the lectures that these veterinarians strived to improve the veterinary field and practice quality medicine which was beyond the standard of care that many clients expect. The ABVP community is one unlike any other, and I am so grateful that I had the chance to become a part of it for a few days. The Symposium provided me with a great opportunity for networking, and I actually completed an externship with one of the veterinarians who I met while I was there. I had an amazing time at the Symposium, and I would love to return as a Diplomate in the future. – Bianca Le
