Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor – Clinical Educator

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time clinical (term) track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Education housed within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Appointment rank will be determined by the qualifications, documented experience, and interests of the selected candidate.

This position will be instrumental in teaching professional veterinary students anesthesia and surgical training. Responsibilities include working with an accomplished team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care specialists, and educational assessment faculty, to teach students, using ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy procedures on shelter animals, as well as utilizing training models and specimens. Specific duties include developing and delivering didactic lectures, laboratory instruction, assessment of students, and supporting a range of clinical education courses. This position also includes involvement in intern training and can be modified to allow the successful applicant to pursue areas of personal interest.

Approximately 70-80% of duties will include providing classroom and laboratory instruction in the professional veterinary student curriculum. The remainder of duties will be split between research, outreach activities, hospital service, and institutional/committee work. It is expected that the successful candidate will collaborate in clinical research with others in the department, college, or elsewhere. Candidates with interest in veterinary medical education or development of novel ways to instruct veterinary students would integrate well with our research group, although candidates with other established clinical and research interests are encouraged to apply.

Veterinarian with a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in primary care small animal practice required. Excellent skills as a primary care veterinarian and in communication are required. Must possess a strong desire to teach and mentor DVM students in classroom and clinical settings. Demonstrated interest and/or experience in veterinary practice management preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere are required. DVM or equivalent degree required. A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in California is required before employment (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals not eligible for a full California license can obtain a University License (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1). USDA accreditation will be required within one year of hire.

Small Animal Emergency Veterinarian, Clinical Lecturer; Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical Professor

The Department of Clinical Sciences in the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants to fill two full-time, non-tenured, 12-month appointments as Small Animal Emergency Veterinarians at Auburn Veterinary Specialists in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This new referral center will provide internal medicine and surgical care for small animals, and will later expand to include emergency services. The referral center will participate in the educational mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine, providing focused clinical instruction to senior veterinary students, interns and residents and continuing education programs for veterinarians. Primary care will not be offered at the referral center.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have demonstrated an interest in emergency medicine and surgery and in advanced patient care. Initially, clinical responsibilities will include after-hours care and management of hospitalized animals. Responsibilities will expand to include the management of emergency cases once the service is opened. Members of the veterinary faculty must contribute to a team environment, engage productively with referring veterinarians, and collaborate with colleagues on the main Auburn University campus. The faculty member will provide exceptional patient care while simultaneously providing clinical instruction for veterinary students. An after-hours rotating working schedule of Monday night through Thursday night and Friday night through the weekend and including Sunday night is anticipated.
