Small Animal Surgery and Shelter Medicine Instructor

The University of Illinois – College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an Instructor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine.

This position is a 100% appointment, full time, non-tenured, academic position; start date on or about Oct. 1, 2018.

The responsibilities associated with this position will be to assist with teaching the professional curriculum in the areas of small animal surgery and shelter medicine. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing primary oversight of small animal surgical laboratories, including the intake and evaluation of shelter animals, teaching during surgical laboratories and providing post-operative care for these animals. During time periods when there are not hospitalized surgical animals, the successful applicant will work within the shelter medicine and small animal surgery programs. This will include driving a mobile surgical unit, teaching students principles of shelter medicine, supervising students performing surgical sterilizations, and assisting with instruction of surgical elective courses when time permits.

Candidates must have a DVM degree or equivalent, and have a minimum of 1 yr of post-grad small animal veterinary experience.
Illinois licensure is not required for this position, but is highly desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who have an interest in small animal surgery and community health care for companion animals.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
