I hope this newsletter finds all of our ABVP colleagues and their families healthy amid the COVID-19 storm.
We have often talked about One Health and the role species specialists, such as those found within ABVP, can play. There will be many social issues that arise from this crisis including financial, nutritional and epidemiological, to name a few. This will be a time for ABVP Diplomates from all species to help provide guidance and support to the leaders of our communities in the understanding of the biological ‘why’ behind governmental decisions and help squelch misinformation.
I would like to provide you with a few logistical updates regarding ABVP operations during the coronavirus outbreak. Given the credentialing process is largely an online format, we anticipate no delays at this time in the announcement of results sometime mid-May. Please know this could change should the volunteer Diplomates reviewing credentials be called away to attend to coronavirus related issues. We will certainly keep you apprised as the situation develops.
At the moment, the ABVP Symposium and examination schedule remains unchanged. However, we are working behind the scenes to develop an examination contingency plan should the need arise. Again, we will keep you apprised as the next few months unfold.
It is my hope a society much more understanding of the fragile nature of biology with a bit more kindness toward their fellow humans will emerge from this experience.
